Young artists view their work at Howden Minster

February 26, 2010

A touring exhibition of award-winning paintings and drawings by local school pupils moved to Howden this week.

Works by 12 finalists in the Drax Power Limited Art In The Community competition will be on show at Howden Minster, on Market Place until 15 March.

The budding artists range in age from 5-18 and now, together with visitors to the Minster, have the chance to view their masterpieces in a ‘gallery’ created along the North Aisle.

Tye Smith from Marshlands Primary - second place in the 5-7 age category - and Chloe Smith from Snaith Primary School - third place in the 5-7 age category - came to have a look at the display in the company of Reverend James Little.

The tour follows an award ceremony at Drax Power Station where the finalists and their schools received prize money totalling more than £2,500.

Drax chief executive Dorothy Thompson said: “We hope local people and visitors enjoy viewing the art works as much as we have, and that this showcase inspires more schools and colleges to take part in Art In The Community this year.”

Art In The Community is part of Drax’s community relations programme designed to encourage and develop art appreciation as part of the company’s support for education and to promote art learning within the National Curriculum.
